Orion: A constellation on the celestial equator represented by the figure of a man with a sword by his side, three stars on a line form his belt.
Orion: In Greek Mythology a brave mighty hunter, a handsome giant, sexual huntsman of the virgin goddesses. A sexually tempting trickster, vain, narcissistic womanizer.
Orion: In Egyptian Mythology Orion was known as Osiris the great god. In death the Egyptians believed that in order to get to the eternal kingdom you had to go through the constellation Orion. The relative sizes and positioning of the stars in Orion's belt matches that of the Giza pyramids with mirror precision. Proving that the Egyptians had an intense understanding and appreciation of the heavens.
Orion never completed the passage into adulthood. Futile he stands grandiose as the gatekeeper of the universe, permanently at the threshold of transformation. Sadly too ignorant to realize he has simply become a passageway for others to enter into the spiritual realm and shed the old self in order that new life, higher purpose and meaning can be given. He remains with us as a constellation in the sky, reminding us of the need to grow beyond self imposed boundaries, to challenge ourselves to take the hero's journey, to die and be reborn, by visiting the unconscious parts of our psyche. Ironically it is often an encounter with the sexually tempting Orion type figure; the trickster that brings us to our own gate of liminality; where we must choose to open the gate and embrace the most hidden aspects of ourselves and in so doing find there amongst the shadows the most beautiful spiritual expression of ourselves and our own truths.
